Alarm system

Do you have recommendations for intrusion protection in the camper while it is sitting in a parking spot.
Thanks

  • What I use is an alarm system of sorts. I use 3 Critter Gitter sensors mounted on both sides and the rear of my TC with velcro tape.

I only use these when camping in bear country.
  • My pickup is equiped with a Viper alarm that features a 2 way remote, meaning if the alarm is set off the remote fob, in my pocket , will buzz and whistle within a 1 mile radius of my truck. I had the alarm installer wire the back door of my TC. A wire is run externally under the TC overhang to the front of the TC where a conection plug connects to the pickup. The mile radius remote works long distance on flat clear ground such as a beach. It will also work if Im in the parking lot of a large store ,like Home Depot or Costco, deep in the store. If the alrm is setoff by intrusion or the truck/TC being hit, I have a chance of arriving on scene to deal with the situation. No power draw from the TC batteries. I also get more peace of mind when sleeping in remote rest areas when the alarm is set. After driving 16-20 hours Im shot, but as tired as I was I found it difficult to really rest in an unfamiliar enviroment , especially one that was full of unexpected ,unfamiliar noises. I set the alarm now and rest well knowing that if one of the unfamiliar noises outside the TC involve me, the alarm will go off.
Its been in use since 2008 with no issues. Great addition for me.
  • When we had our Northstar pop-up TC I installed a self-contained motion detector alarm I got at Home Depot, IIRC. Had a keyring remote, so we would shut and lock camper door, then just point the remote thru the rear window to activate the alarm (a little LED would blink to let you know it was set). The times I would forget to de-activate it prior to opening the door gave you about 5 seconds to hit the remote or it would certainly scare the @#$% out of you! Had it mounted just above the pass-thru window so it was pretty much restricted to the rear door. Walking past the clear glass window didn't set it off, just opening the door. To the best of my knowledge we never needed it, or if we did then it did its job well, since we never lost anything from inside the camper! ST
  • I have a Clifford alarm system on my motorhome. Both front doors and the back door have sensors, there is a motion sensor and glass breakage (noise)sensor. I have it wired to the house batteries and the unit has a 9 volt battery back-up. It has been in place for 29 years. Occasionally there will be a false alarm because of high wind or a loud noise near the motorhome, but for the most part it has been foolproof.

I had to replace the siren about 10 years ago. It chirps when armed or disarmed, and quit working.

I have a 30 amp outlet on a timer from Lowes that charges my house batteries for one hour a day. There is also a trik-l-charge that charges the coach battery at the same time.

This has been a good alarm system. I would buy another one.
  • I've seen people put house type door locks, and probably any car type alarm would work although it might kill the batteries if you have no charging source. The thief or thieves that broke into the class A that I had just busted the small pane of glass in the door and turned the rv type deadbolt. I'm not sure if a house style lock would have helped.
