All electric vehicles?

I guess electrically powered vehicles are coming but seems to me they are presently only a rich person's toy with present technology. By that I mean, they're only good for around town and short trips and they cost A LOT. So another conventional vehicle is required for real traveling. We only have 1 car (Ford Focus) plus a 30 ft. MH. I also calculated that Chevy's plug-in cost so much that a car like my Focus cost so much less, the difference would buy gas for 7 years. I'm not including hybrids which sort of make sense even though I don't personally like them. I don't see batteries in sight that would enable real travel but maybe there's some secret technology? Apparently Ford is all in for electric. Good luck with that.

  • They argument is always that it won't work for my situation, so they will never work, which is simply a false argument. Use our family for example. Not counting kid's car, we have a van for long distance travel/towing duties and I have a small commuter car to get me back and forth to work. I've had my commuter car for 4 years and in that time period, it hasn't been more than 250 miles from home. The vast majority of its time is in-town. An electric would work fine for this vehicle. When it comes time to replace, I will probably look at them although it probably won't happen since I don't spend a ton on cars because, well, they are just cars to me so there probably won't be any in my price range. The point is, too many people that seem "opposed" to electric seem to take an all or nothing approach and I don't think it will be that way for many years to come.
  • From what I have read. Milage can be in the 400mile range on a charge. And recharge in an hour
  • The technology is far better than what you realize. Though I don't see electric cars outright replacing gas/diesel even 10 years from now. The more that are in the market however, the lower the prices. The reality is that many of us will end up with electric cars for much of our day to day needs.
