Almost 80,000 Miles on a set of tires.

I just put a new set of skins on my dually in preparation for a trip through the mountain passes to Alberta from Vancouver.

I just have to say how well pleased I am on the service life of the old tires. Michelin LTX M&S load range E. Especially considering my truck is always loaded, and it is 4WD as well. And I tow a lot too. I rotated them regularly.

These tires have given me 4 years of trouble free service. They have handled very well in all driving conditions from off road dragging the TT into a lake somewhere to the slick Vancouver rainy roads to snow in BC's mountain passes. Never a problem, ever. I think I had to get one fixed when I picked up a screw somewhere.

I didn't quite break 80,000 miles but came close. 127,543K or 79,251.5 miles on them. I would have left them on a while longer, but because I'm heading to Alberta with the TT on Tuesday, I opted to renew them.

They don't make the same tires anymore for my truck, but they make the LTX M&S2, which is the replacement for them. I'm not sure what the difference is, but I guess I'll find out, because that's what I bought. I'm told they last longer. $1450, bit of a bite but you only cry once! 6 of the beggars!

Just a little tire report for anyone considering what to buy next.
I am totally sold on these tires.

I had them on my minivan for years too with perfect service, (until a 5 ton truck wiped me off the road and wrecked the van)

At 25000 miles my Michelin LTX A/T2's (275/65 r 20) were worn down to the tread wear indicators. The second 25000 miles haven't got the steel belts exposed yet but they are worn bald. Hopefully the Goodyear Wrangler Adventures I have on order will last a whole lot better.
  • While I like and use Michelin tires, I dont get that kind of mileage. My ATX M/S have forty k on them now, I only see them being good for another ten k.
  • I also got 80K out of a set of Michelin M/S 2's. I have never gotten that kind of mileage out of a tire. I am now sold on Michelin.
While not always true, in this case you get what you pay for.
  • I put just over 100k miles on a set of Michelin LTX A/S tires on my previous Ram 2500HD 4X2. Hoping for a lot of miles out of my Firestones on the F250 now.
  • I'm at 74,000 on my original B.F.Goodrich Rugged Trail load range Es. They don't look brand new but I bet they could go another 15-20,000 miles. I had a set of these in a lighter version on my last F-150 and they were done at 30,000. I check the air pressure almost weekly and rotate often..

  • BobsYourUncle,

We get the same very long life and great traction with our 4 sets of Michelin "E" tires also and have since our first set of Michelin LTX 265/75/16 "E" M&S tires back on our 1993 Chev 2500 Ext Cab LB 4X4 that almost always had the 9.5' Lance TC on it's back. Replaced them with new same Michelins after over 89K on them.

Our new set of Michelins that's now on our current Chevy D/A CC LB 4X4 truck are LTX 265/75/16 "E" M&S2 tires that replaced the 265/75/16 "E" M&S Michelins with over 94K on them and still had 3+/32 of tread left over the wear bars and had NO sidewall cracks showing yet. I even took some very close up pics and emailed the pics to a forum member about a month before the 2 front tires were replaced. I'd replaced the rears a couple months earlier because I didn't want to take any chances with 7 year old high miles rear tires with having the 11'4" very heavy Lance TC that's on the truck as we were going up into the U.P. and going on several dirt backroads where it wouldn't be funny to have a blown tire on.

The Michelins are simply a superb tire and we won't have anything else on our trucks or SUVs as we have lived the difference and know like you do also.
  • Same tires I have on one of my 3500's. I have the MS/2 on my truck now, I buy only Michelin.
