Google Alumnapalooza, or Wally Byam Airstream clubs. You can spend more than an enjoyable evening seeing how others use their Airstreams and how much they are part of their lives. Also LongLongHoneymoon did a segment on Alumnapalooza.
Go to Airforums site and look under Rally's sub-forum. Alumapalooza is just a drop in the bucket. My wife and I are buying 27' flying cloud soon and we are going to Alumalina in Smoky Mountains of SC in October. 90+ Airstreams will be there, hundreds of folks, nice people for sure. Airstreamers are known for it. We won't have our Airstream by then, but numerous folks on Airforums sent us messages to attend and find them. We're going.
Check out some of the Airstream only RV Parks online. Virginia Highlands or similar name is in Smokies. Many others. I've spoke with dozens of Airstream owners lately on Airforums. Great folks. As are many RV people in general I'm sure.
My parents had a 34' Classic Airstream they bought new in 2001. Amazing. No other words. But the fact that there are so many campers to choose from is great. We went through this in last year or so. But decided after being arounf and in Airstreams, nothing else would suffice.
The build quality of an Airstream has NO equal. Period. Natta. We are likely buying a 27' Flying Cloud FB Twin. May buy a 2-3 year old model if we find one. That would save $20-35k off the $80-85k price new. Airstream Classifieds is a great site to look on.
But there are so many older Airstreams as well. It's amazing how nice many of the 40-50 year old Airstreams are. Truly. I've been looking for months and have been tempted to buy several made in the 1970's. Find me any other camper made today you could sell in 50 years. Think hard.
