For more than sixty years folks have been fulltiming in aero, all aluminum travel trailers
. I guess my grandparents somehow deprived themselves in travelling the entire U.S., Canada and much of Mexico in the 1960s. Or my parents, who kept theirs more than a quarter century and were out months at a time. Using cars. Both couples could have had whatever they wanted even though the choice of trailer was not Airstream, but upmarket cousins now out of business.
Calling it a cult is flat funny. A Harley is a piece of junk motorcycle as to performance. Or any ancient muscle car. And demanding slides sounds more like the need for serious dieting. Slides decrease structural stability, handling, and increase the rate of deterioration. Be careful with that "need".
The storage question is a non-starter. Wants and needs sure do get confused around here.
And the towing difference is huge. This cannot be emphasized enough as it is not a matter of a more comfortable ride, but of rig stability. It matters not much, for some, those who trundle the same roads a few hundred miles each summer. But it does in going all over the country. It's the only trailer that can handle difficult maneuvers at a higher speed than the usual pickups most choose to tow.
The trailer is the more important choice. Around here, as the white boxes deteriorate so fast, the more threads are on tow vehicles as they will last longer.
Less horsepower needed to tow the same length A/S trailer means a wider variety of TV choices, and less wear and tear on the TV (not just higher mpg for a given rig).
Choose a used one and you'll be ahead in every category involving money.
Spend time over on www.airforums.com for specifics. Desks have been installed among many other changes owners have made. Bikes aware carried by many.
Take your time, whichever way you go. But have a better understanding of trade offs versus money over the longest term. More money upfront can be a great deal cheaper past the the ten year mark.
