the one thing I haven't been able to find in any other trailer is the open view the windows of an airstream provide.
To be honest, the exclusivity and "you're either one of us or you're not" mentality is a turnoff, but I realize a lot of airstream owners aren't like that.
Yes, they're super expensive compared to everything else. We can live without a slide. If I could find another company that builds great, reliable little units with fantastic open windows in the bedroom and the dining room, I'd love it.
We don't know a ton about other models, just based on what we've seen on the lots at our local dealers, and the only model that has excited us so far is the airstream.
I'd get a bigfoot in a heartbeat if it had the big, wrap-around windows that an airstream had. I'm hoping someone out there knows of another brand that has a similar feel that invites the outdoors to be inside the trailer, rather than the opposite.
Your one of us or not mentality? If it exists, I have not seen it. We don't own an Airstream, but I've been poking around on Airforums this past month. Nices group of folks you could imagine. There is a thread about a rally in SC Smoky Mtns in Oct, close to us. I posted there and half dozen folks, including event organizer sent me a PM asking that we come. They knew we didn't have a camper, let alone Airstream. They were telling us to bring the kids, dog, where to stay in area, times of activities, open house, fish fry dinner, campfire social type (laid back) gathering, etc. My wife was speechless, as was I.
We looked at every camper available this past year in our area. But we kept going back to the Airstream. We wanted a $25-40k camper, but the quality wasn't there. It needs to last a while. My kids are both in diapers. I see them around here all the time, used, practically being given away. My parents bought a new 34' Classic Airstream about 15 years back and had I never 'camped' in it, I would likely be more open minded.
They (Airstreams) are truly that much better than all the white box offerings. It's just the truth. We work for a living, this won't be an easy expense, and we will try to buy slightly used if possible. We look at it in an investment in our kids future. They will see the entire country in it. Weekend trips in the nearby Smokies and a 2-3 week cross country 'Chevy Chase' trip each summer. Hah.
I looked at the Bigfoot just now, mentioned by you and an earlier poster that lives near the plant. Those are really nice looking travel trailers. Very nice. That brand had stayed below our radar somehow.
