An alternative to adding a battery box on the exterior is to install one inside. The box needs to be sealed and vented to the exterior. I have one inside, just forward of the axles. I use two 6V-GC2's in that bank but folks with more money could use AGM batteries in that situation.
That sounds like a great solution. Do you have any pictures of your setup?
I have two battery banks inside. Both are vented. One is 3 x AGM's and one is 2 x FLA. Some AGM's are manufactured and rated to be used in closed spaces (telecom, x-ray, etc) but all have the ability to vent if overcharged. If you don't want a concentration of Hindenburg gas in your trailer, vent the battery space.
The Cowboy/Hilton's FLA battery box:

The box is wood, lined with plastic and a single 7/8" vent to the exterior. The purpose-built vent has an attractive chrome cover on the exterior. The top is gasketed to provide sealing.
Inside the box:

The AGM bank:

12V distribution, bank switching/disconnection, solar control, charging, and inversion is done at this distribution panel (also inside):
