Haha. You got me there. How about adding the alumaguard to new fabric to protect it?
I'm trying to find a website, without calling, where I can get an estimated cost for the alumaguard.
Since I think that will be the expensive part I want to wait to do it all at the same time.
Oh and I have a mod to help save the awning from tearing and losing the whole thing going down the road...

Stay away from camping world, as they will replace the entire assembly. You and a couple of friends can replace your awning fabric for ~$150, give or take. Did mine a few years ago.
As far as the alumaguard, I haven't seen a source for it, but I imagine there's one out there somewhere. A lot of people fashion their own guard out of pvc gutter and keep it on the awning when not in use. When ready to travel, they take it off and travel. When it gets parked again, the gutter goes right back on. Works pretty well.
