The Audi A8 has had an aluminum body for many years and aluminum has some advantages. Audis dont burst into flame or any of that other drivel.
Remember that virtually all Aircraft bodies are aluminum as are most class 8 trucks. It is well tested and not any kind of technological NEW IDEA.
However some insurance companies do charge more because the repair costs can be higher. But this is a bit of a scam...like when disc brakes first started appearing on US cars it cost twice as much to get a brake job as for the more complicated and time consuming drum brakes.
It will change. But Aluminum prices fluctuate more than steel(more often and by wider margins) and this may have repercussions down the line.
