Op, you went from one extreme to the other. A better choice is 3/4ton to handle the payload for towing over 7000lbs short of the truck's payload limit. I typically keep my vehicles for 15 or 20 years. I wouldn't want to buy a used truck after it's been abused by overloading and get stuck with expensive repairs.
