I never noticed a loss of performance. It was just the annoyance of the "Exhaust Cleaning" process weekly that I didn't like. Except while towing in the summer, I rarely ever got the truck up to highway speeds. Once the process started, the manual stay it may be harmful to the system if it is interrupted. I didn't always have the time to get to a highway and take her for a run once the process started.
