Am I just a chicken?

We tow a 5000 lb. dry weight, 25 ft TT with a F-150 4x4. Factory tires on both TT and TV with no problem. I do up the tire pressure to 40 lbs.

We prefer the secondary roads but any time you take the interstate, you will be passed by everything. You will also feel truck buffeting.

A simple trip to the scales with and without the TT will show you the axle loads.

I tow a 21 foot TT with a 2004 Chevy half ton. I don't use any weight distribution hitch or sway bar. I don't even know it's back there. BUT, I don't go far from home and rarely down the interstate. So I admit that is not a fair comparison.

Why are you asking for advice on a truck you don't have anymore?

I was pulling a 23' trailer with an F 150, pulled good but it just felt like it was working to do that, had a few windy trips and it was a handful,had Michelin LTX but still was a both hands on the wheel job.

Stepped up to a newer 2500HD with the six speed transmission and tow/haul mode, truck has hill hold,sway control and down hill braking,,Love it! Best move yet!! Towing is a non issue now!

You posted THIS am about towing with your GMC 1500 and having concerns about set up as IF this was an on-going problem.
Even answered question about tires and posted a link to previous thread where picture of WDH was posted.....

BUT you don't have this truck......sold it and looking at 2500 :H :S

GO buy a 2500, set up hitch and go camping!

Look at the Reese Dual Cam hitch.

I tow a 19ft "ultra-Light" single axle trailer with a 6 cyl Trailblazer (about 3400lbs loaded)... used to be a ***** especially when the big rigs blow by. Now it tows just fine. The secret is tuning the rig. In my case that meant tires on the TV (the LT variety), tires on the trailer (Kumho Cargo tires), air bags in the TV rear springs (run at 30 psi), adjusting the down force on the E2 hitch (more is better) and running all the tires at near max rated psi(50psi on the TV and 60psi on the trailer) Also empty tanks except forward water tank at half full and propane bottles full. Oh one last thing, two batteries mounted forward of the axle.

We generally keep the speed down near 60mph but it tows up to 75 or so without a problem except that the fuel mileage sucks.

My dad had the same thing happen two wks ago. Has a 1500 and 26' TT. he seriously thought he was going to roll both on the expressway.
He took it in to have an inspection done. All was good with his setup but what the found were two bad hubs.
Picked up TT yesterday and just drove the back roads. He's taking a cruise down the expressway this weekend, to check it out

It always pays to have plenty of tow vehicle. Pushing the limits on a lightweight TV is just asking for issues. Having said that, a properly set up trailer should still tow well.
Let us know how your TT tows with the 2500 truck.
