Interesting but I have no answer.
I used to go out and add fuel to my daughters car. I'd only add a few gallons so it didn't make a big move on the needle. We were partying one night and I walked her into a conversation about mileage. She said her car was fantastic and she never has to add fuel. I said I have been putting some in each night. Everyone was cracking up.
