"My experience, the single biggest factor for mpg is altitude. That goes for my motorcycle, truckcamper and motorhome. The less dense the air to push out of the way the better. That's why airliners fly high."
That works best if there is a turbocharger or supercharger on the engine to feed it more air. Otherwise more altitude yields less HP available to a point of frustration in the Rockies on a hot day.
