I always thought the big issue with absorption refrigerators was poor cooling performance in hot weather. I wonder if the OPs mods are going to help that,
I have the unit off the truck, sitting in the side yard in the sun and it gets the afternoon sun on the fridge side of the camper. It appears to make little difference as the inside temp never varies more than 4 degrees.
I know last season, I couple times when it was hot out, I thought my food would go bad. 40 degrees on the fridge don't work well. It was eat it all quick time...
I believe between the fans and their location plus the additional insulation that the builders skimped on, made a big difference. When I can stuff a half roll of R13 unfaced in the space between the fridge and the cabinet, that tells me that there wasn't enough in the firt place and insulation is cheap. Bought a full roll, compressed, at Lowes for 9 bucks.
I'm sure the upper baffle I installed helped too. Before, the heat from the condenser was accumulating on top of the fridge in the space where the insulation was supposed to be but wasn't.
If I knew that if I ever buy another TC, before I take ownership, I'll be checking stuff like that. I took it for granted that the builders installed adequate insulation. Wasn't the case.
I've seen people add a fan inside too. Not sure I need that at this point. I may get one of those battery operated ones that Camco sells, I may. Right now, it don't look like I need one.
I will at some point in the very near future, buy a Dometic cooler type refrigerator with the Danfoss compressor for the backseat of the truck for cold stuff on the road plus I can pre cool my adult beverages before they go in the camper fridge...
