Some of you should ask this question, as I have.
When is the typical 8600-8800 gvw 15 series truck going to come back to market. Most if the current SW 25/35 series trucks are heavier tare, granted stronger drivetrain, ie higher gvw too. But no longer in the true HD DOT class 2 ie 8400-10,000 gvw range. Can you find a reg cab, 8' bed, base rwd truck that wieght under 5000 lbs empty like two I've had? An equal 15 series is just over 5000 empty. A 25 series is over 6000 EMPTY!
I have not looked at Toyotas me specs, but if this truck has a 5-6k ra, 4-4.5k fa, sounds like a typical 25 series I grew up with, like them too! I'd buy another instead of my 1500, IF the manufactures would put some of the 15 series features in these trucks. Eco boost, 5.3 V8. Small 6 cylinder diesel dodge and GM have. No they will not pull 20k lbs, they're not ment too. But I could put my family of 6 that wieghed 1200 lbs or so with four adult sized teens. 7-8000 lb trailer behind it, and be safe. Get decent mpgs empty......
Kinda like the GM 1500HD from 96-2000, and new body style from 02-06 or so. 454/6.0 V8, 4L80E trans, 8 lug rims, 6k/4k rear/front axles, 10 ply tires,5600-5800 empty wight crew cab with a 6.5' bed......engines I mentioned 15-25 potential city hwy mpg gas, 20-30 mpg with the small diesels.
Hope Toyota succeeds with this truck if it meets some of the criteria I mentioned.
Nothing wrong with the 9.5" SF AAM 12 bolt RA. Had a few. Just wish I had it instead of the 8.5" 10 bolt behind my V6. Guess I shoulda bought a V8;eh!

So you bought literally the lightest duty 1/2 ton but you wish they made more slightly heavier duty ones than the typical 7k ish gvw half tons? But a 3/4 ton is too much?
Sounds like your 2 steps behind what you really want, when you could be 1 step behind or 1 step ahead…..
That is likely why you don’t see many heavy half’s and light 3/4s. Would be like offering cartons of eggs with 15 eggs, you know for those folks whom a dozen apparently isn’t enough and 18 is too many. Very small target market.
