An upgraded option for the half ton Pickup crowd

Toyota has unveiled the new Tundras, more power, hybrid, higher tow cap.

  • The new Tundra is shockingly ugly, but next to a Silverado HD, it looks pretty good.
  • The "base" twin turbo doesn't seem like much of an improvement over the ole venerable 5.7 for power, but likely better unloaded fuel mileage.
First year, minimal assist, more complicated systems hybrid? No thanks but it'll sell to the men who have to justify their purchase as being "green" to get the ballz back out of their wives purses...

Give me a simple 10 speed, 6.2 LS motor GM with leaf springs and keep the hybrid, hamster wheel, coil spring, looks like it already got in a front end collision Toyota!
  • nice but we need a crew cab and that only has a 5.5 or 6.5ft box.
  • I read in another article that the max payload is 1940? Guessing that's lower the nicer trim you get. Still not quite up to F150 specs. But the power is definitely their.
  • 'yota keeping up with the F150 offerings. Interesting another 1500 size truck going to rear coils.
Now will the new Tundra match Fords F150 gvwr/rawr for load carrying ability.
  • Never mind, I was right, those coils look like they belong on a luxury car. Hello airbags and Timbrens for all! Lol
  • Upper end Half tons haven’t been limited by “tow rating” for some time now.
What is most disappointing is Yoda opted for coil rear suspension.
Sounds like more opportunity for the aftermarket suspension companies for those that load the truck up. (icbw, a stout set of coils would be fine, if they don’t make em for the soccer moms.)
I fail to understand how the hybrid option offers a meaningful punch for say towing. If it has such small reserve capacity, per the article.
  • I agree on the front end - kinda looks like what some of the Lexus SUVs have been looking like the last few years. The design resembles some of my grandkids' transformer toys...

  • I'm a big Toyota fan, and have been for a long, long time, however that front end does make me cringe a bit. Almost looks like it should say Tonka rather than Toyota. I'm sure it's a fine truck, however.

Maybe when I see one parked next to a Chevy HD it will take the edge off it!! :C
