I towed it home today almost an hour, ambient temps were in the middle to high 70's. I could not hear the fan running at 45-55 mph until about halfway home. Then it started to kick in and like (new) normal, increase in intensity with engine speed and load, even slight load. It was a rolling two-lane country road and I left it in Drive because I knew it would have a tendency to go in and out of OD. When I would crest a hill that required some running in low 2, and it would shift back up into drive, even on a down side where vehicle speed barely increased, the fan would continue down the other side. On the flats, ANY slight throttle in put would immediately speed the fan up even thought the engine RPMs remained below 2000. Simply touching the pedal kicked the fan in.
When I got home, the fan was screaming pretty loud heading up the grade to my house at 35 mph in drive. As soon as I got home, I shut it down and shot the fan hub like I've been doing for a week. The temps not towing run about 150-160, with the high at 180. Today the temp was 155 while towing and the fan was screaming. I shot the trans pan as I have done many times in the past and it's normal at about 200 degrees. The engine was cool enough for me to rest my forearm comfortably on the valve cover without burning it. Underhood temps were not high at all compared to a normal summer day towing.
I have an appointment to take it to the shop next week but I'm worried they won't be able to tell me anything if there is no fault being shown.
I did get an OBD sensor and download the app, but I think I may have gotten stuck with a clone, because the computer will not talk to the sensor. It powers up and shows the truck recognizes the unit, just won't transmit any info and show up on the telemetry.
