Andersen WD Ball Housing Maintenence

I found a vide on Youtube posted by Andersen Manufacturing that shows how to replace or reseat the anti sway cone material inside the ball housing.

I am not sure what the anti-sway material is made out of, I thought it was your standard brake material but it doesn't look like it is from this video.

Here is a Link to the video.

I know a lot of people are using this hitch and this may come in handy.

Some interesting notes from the video:

  • The snap ring on the bottom of the tapered ball is only functional when the hitch is being used as a weight carrying hitch
  • The anti-sway material can squeeze out of the ball housing by as much as 3/8 of an inch...but once the material has squeezed out 3/8's of an inch the anti-sway material should either be reseated or replaced
  • Seems to be user serviceable

Thanks!

Jeremiah

  • Mine hasn't squeezed out but I do get shavings out of it every time I tow.
  • Thank you, that was very helpful. My material is working out a little and calling them was on my list to do this winter. Now it looks like I don't have to and it's not a problem.

However, mine doesn't have a snap ring... Must be an older model.
