- HioSSilverExplorerOh I'm way over on the truck now......grosses about 11k loaded. I mainly watch my tires. Mostly should probably be concerned if i need to upgrade the hitch from a class 3 to a class ? I guess.
But getting away from a hitch extension would be nice. - wnjjExplorer IISomething to consider is how much tongue weight you can handle. My SRW 3500 is at max with the camper and little tongue weight so using a short extension is an easy option. It automatically limits me to smaller trailers (2-place open snowmobile/ATV or 6x10 single axle enclosed). If you're planning on towing heavier with the truck in your signature, you'll likely be overweight on your rear axle/tires if you also have a heavier camper with a slide.
- HioSSilverExplorerThanks for the replies. I have a lance 845 now that i tow behind now. Small stuff like 6x10 4wheeler trailer and jet ski trailer. But i wouldn't mind being able to town a bit heavier. Maybe a enclosed trailer or open car trailer. It just seems all the campers gave the rear fenders and end up at 9.5 ft or more for long beds these days.
A 8-9ft slide in is plenty big with a slide out on it. The whole deal with truck campers i thought was being manuverable with a small foot print. Not turning your truck into a class C.
That eagle cap looks very nice. If they would of raised the floor in it for more floor space then it would be perfect. - mkirschNomad IIIt was tight but I was able to tow my trailer without an extension for a couple of years, with a 9'6" camper.
If I'd had known about the Brophy BZ20 or BH20 shanks, which are several inches longer than a normal shank, I probably wouldn't have my current extension setup.
There's nothing special about my trailer, just a standard tandem axle 7x14 enclosed utility trailer. No extended tongue or anything like that.
This is just to demonstrate that it an extension is not always necessary if your camper happens to hang over the back of the truck. - wnjjExplorer II

I think with customers demanding more luxury, the straight 8' TC (one where you can close tailgate behind) are on extinct.
I don't think they would have much of bathroom as no space for holding tank.
Than since truck receiver stick quite few inches past bed, getting 9-6" camper will allow towing with just longer ball mount.
I have a 9'6" camper and use an 18" extension plus longer ball mount.
Eagle Cap made an 850 model that's 8'11" and has everything my 950 does minus a couple of pantry cabinets and outside storage compartments. Same bath, slide, etc. My comments are for the older years but I see they still make an 850 these days. - Artum_SnowbirdExplorerI have had two, both Snowbird/SnowRivers that I connected my boat to without a hitch extension.
A lot depends on the tongue length and in my case, I had a swing-a-way hitch on my boat trailer that made it about 18 inches longer than might be standard.
More ways than one to make it work. - Kayteg1Explorer III think with customers demanding more luxury, the straight 8' TC (one where you can close tailgate behind) are on extinct.
