Thank you for saying nicely what I wanted to say to those who immediately feel the need to insult the driver.
Hill grade was about 3 percent. But like I said, it was long. And the motor was working very hard to handle it, when it probably should have done much better. Trans in tow mode, and I eventually did lock it out in 3rd gear at about 3700 rpm.
I don't think the tranny was overheating as the fluid did not smell hot, and it really did smell more like diff fluid.
Just didn't think the smell of diff fluid could escape a sealed system, so that is why I am a little puzzled.
And I had a diesel. I know how well they tow. But for what I tow, I downgraded to gas, based on all the reviews I have heard about how well the 6.2 tows. Not this one apparently.
Anyway, thanks for the input everyone. Hopefully it's nothing, as the smell did go away and didn't return, in spite of even steeper hills along the way.
