Like you I have had issues with the ball sticking all to often. I used to chock the TT and nidge the TV back a bit but that was hard on the tongue jack.
Now when I pull in; I crank the tongue jack down, loosen the ball locking lever, lift the back of the truck a few inches with the tongue jack, then release the torsion bars. When the second bar is released the TV usually springs free. Once in a while I will also have to jump on the hitch.
The ball and socket are well greased with Vaseline, it washes out of cloths a little better than grease.
