A few things.
I assume you are disconnecting the equalizer bars and sway bar first. Also any electrical and safety chains (you did chock the TT wheels!).
Leave the TV in park and do not set the emergency brake. Leaving it in park allows for some give at the hitch. When you raise the hitch you should see the TV move slightly forward or backward. Do not put it in neutral, the TV could roll back into the trailer or forward and you will be chasing it down the hill!
If that doesn't work or you are on an incline, crank up the the hitch until the weight is off the TV, then a little more so it is trying to raise the rear of the TV. With foot on the brake, engage rev and/or drive. You should feel the rear of the TV drop down as it disengages.
