Any Northern Lite 10.2 EX SE owners out there?

Greetings,

I am looking hard at this camper and would appreciate any negative feedback you might have about your camper? It appears to be a well built and thought out product, but I am looking for the dark side of Northern Lite if one exists!

What have you liked the most about the camper? Do you find that it handles harsher climates well?

Thank you

    3. You have to remove the top step, and open the rear door, in order to access the basement storage compartment. I understand having to remove the top step, but it would be nice if you didn't have to also open the door.

This is misinformation. The basement door is well below the rear entrance door.
You do not have to open the rear door to access the basement storage compartment - unless you’re talking about the door to the basement storage compartment.
I mean, of course you have to open that. ???

  • I haven’t picked mine up yet and have been debating whether I’ll put my Stable-Lift on the new rig.
I know all campers are kinda’ iffy on the peg-legs but have you found the NL more wobbly than others when standing on its jacks?
  • we have a 2016. I like everything about it, but the lack of stability when its off the truck.
  • It seems that having to open the rear door to get the basement compartment open is brilliant, that makes it a lot harder to break in to the storage compartment and steal stuff.

(Yeah I know, this thread is from 1981... )
  • I have a relatively new (purchased in May) NL 10.2 ex cd special edition camper.

Here are some things that I don't particularly like about it:

    1. The ladder on the back of the camper stops just below the awning that's on the back or the camper, and there is nothing to grab onto above the awning to get up on the roof, making it quite dangerous to get onto the roof of the camper from the ladder. I know some people do it, but I never would.

    2. The roof top is slanted to both sides rather than being flat. The location of the bathroom vent on this slanted roof makes it impractical to put a fan vent cover over this vent. I would really like to have a cover over this vent so I could be able to open the vent in rainy, etc. weather, but so far I haven't figured out how to do it.

    3. You have to remove the top step, and open the rear door, in order to access the basement storage compartment. I understand having to remove the top step, but it would be nice if you didn't have to also open the door.

    4. Special care is needed to maintain the plastic windows in this model camper. I understand there are pluses as well as negatives with these, but you asked for the negatives.

    5. I have not found a practical way to secure the outside door from blowing in the wind (it is often very windy where I am located) if I want to keep it open with just the screen door being closed. My other RVs always had a latch on the door that you could secure it to the side of the RV when it was opened.

    6. Thee are 2 separate battery compartments. You'd need to drill a hole between the two boxes if you'd want to use 2 6V batteries in series. Plus, they are small, and not rectangular at the top, which somewhat limits your battery choices that you can fit into them.
  • We've been internet comparing the Bigfoot 10.6 and the Northern Lite 10.2 EX. They are both strong contenders in our narrowing list.
  • We don't have a 10-2 EX, however we do have a brand new ( 2 weeks old) 8-11 EX dry bath.
We have camped in it for just over a weeks total time and the onlly two issues we have found.
one was the instructions for the Happy jacks, suck. I wrote proses training documents for a number of years, and their instructions just suck, but that's not NL issue.
The second was that we couldn't put a MaxAir vent cover over the bathroom vent because the frame of the vent is to close to the step up of the roof. If that vent was about 2 inches closer to the outside of the camper a vent cover would fit. But I bet there is a structal reason it is located where it is.
Other than that it is perfect.
We have had a couple of showers and I'm over 6' tall 235 and I fit in there just nice. Not sure what you think your getting with a shower in a camper but you have to figure it's going to be tight. Yes brushing your teeth is a little tight as the sink for me is to low. I think there could have been a between design of the sink / shower nozel/ taps, but nothing a bit of maneuvering can't fix.
I agree that if the dinette and kitchen were switched around it would be better for viewing out that big window on the dinette, but then again , when I went on the tour a month or so ago they said everything is arranged for weight distribution, and placement of appliances / battires / propane tanks etc...
We did get the u shaped dinette which we did so we could stretch out or legs more with that seat against the outside wall. The added bonus was the extra storage under that extra seat.
The 2018 NL 8-11 with dry bath is 4 inches longer than the 2017 with the wet bath, so we got extra room in the bathroom, which yes is small, but it's a campernot a 35' ft Wheel that we down graded from.
It's easy on my GMC 3500 and I have no troubles passing slower vehicals going up some of the mountain passes around here. It corners better than I thought, and have no issues with breaking coming down hills. I can park in a single wide parking spot but I do take up four.... greedy....
The basement is great, my Coleman Grill and my two low profile tool boxes fit in there with room to spare.
We bought this rig for mobility in the bush and for Hwy and city driving. So with a smaller rig you have to exspect something won't be exsactly how you would do it.
  • Thanks for the response. I haven't had the opportunity to see one yet, but I am leaning towards the wet bath. I love all the available storage space that I could use during the week. As soon as I return from overseas I will get out there and start standing inside them all.
  • I have looked long and hard at these too. What I don't like... I wish the layout was changed from side to side. Other RV's have their openings to the passenger side, and if you are backed in to RV parking, I don't really like looking out when I am dining at other RV's doing their thing. I would rather look out at my picnic table from where I am dining. Also, looking out to the overhanging awning makes it a lot more inviting too, and connects the inside to the outside if you have visitors under the awning.

If you are considering the dry bath model I think they really missed the boat with that setup. To brush your teeth you have to get into the shower space. I was so looking forward to a proper dry bath model, but that is just a wet bath partly separated.
