Adventurer 86FB owners out there?

Just thinking of going to the dark side...I mean the hardside of truck campers. Anybody own this model? Have anything you'd like to share good and bad about it? I noticed on the website it states that non-slide models have wood frame construction where the slide models use aluminum frame. Do you consider this an issue? Does the wardrobe on the driver cabover bed side make that area feel claustrophobic?
  • I just purchased an 89RB, I couldn't make up my mind between the two. I liked the larger tanks on the 86 but my wife liked the sliding door and more open feel of the 86. I sure like the dump valve setup on the 86 better.

The one window also played a part with us deciding on the 89, but the 86 has more privacy.

As you may see, I'm conflicted but they had no 86's left so the decision was made for me.

PS: They 89 uses some aluminum in the framing, I think the 86 does as well. If you haven't already I'd suggest you check the reviews of both of those campers on truck camper magazine.

I'm coming from a 1999 810ws so the 89RB is a pretty similar plan, my old 1999 has no sign of any leaks so they seem to be a decent camper to me.
  • I already read the TCM reviews. In the article a spokesperson from ALP stated, "We don't see the wood or aluminum being of structural interest. The key is our TCC (lamination)and construction process, not the framing material." They seem pretty confident in their construction. My last trailer was wood frame construction but then again living in the desert has it's advantages.

Thanks Hedge for the Adventurer owner input.
  • We just sold our wood framed 2003 Adv 810 WS. That camper was also very good to us, in fact we stayed with AMLRV brand. (Adv/Eagle Cap).

I would have no issue with going to wood framed camper. There are advantages to both wood and aluminum. Both work well.

Nothing but good to say about our previous Adventurer, many thousands of miles, cross country, ski camping, etc...

  • I just bought the 86 last Nov, I like both the 86 and the 89 but what sold me on the 86 was the bath in the middle, I just liked that layout.
  • Adventurer/Eagle Cap hire their Campers in Canada via company called Fraserway RV, look them up, they are in 4 or 5 locations and have about 1500 campers for hire. They also sell new& used campers & trucks.
The Epp family have been in the Camper manufacturing business for over 60 years.
I am on my second Adventurer LP(parent company) camper. First was a 910fbs for three years and we received an Eagle Cap 1160 in late October last year. Both fantastic campers and have exceeded all my expectations.
I am in Australia, so I need a camper that is reliable, as if there were warranty issues I would have fix, as there are not any Truck Camper repairers & dealers here. We have not had any problems.
    Good Luck.
  • We don't have the Adventurer, but we do have the full wall wardrobe. We prefer it because of the additional insulation to sound and light in the sleeping area. I wish they put it street side inside curb side, but that is my only complaint.
  • We love our Adventurer.

The only on going issue is the fridge, but it's a Dometic problem and both companies have been great trying to help with the problem. They have sent us a baffle that we'll install to see if that will keep the thermo fuse assembly from blowing (4th time).

The TC itself is great and is well made and we use it off the truck all the time. The wardrobe's mirror keeps the bed area from feeling too small. I think you'll be happy with your choice. If you do have issues, contact Brad at Adventurer.
  • Can not comment on that particular make and model of camper but just recently went to the dark/hard side ourselves. Have not even camped in it yet does have some good attributes in the particular model we chose. For example, the bed is much easier to climb in and out of when I have to visit the bathroom in the middle of the night after a few glasses of wine.

I did look at the Adventurers and was very impressed.

I imagine if you have a fantastic fan, you don't miss the second window that much?
