Any Rockwood 231KSS owners?

The pop up has been totaled. We decided to step up to the hybrid areana and the wife and I stumbled across a Rockwood Roo 231kss that she likes. How has your experience with been with the camper and with Forest River? Thanks for the input!
  • I am glad to hear that your experiences has been positive. I have heard good and bad things about Forest River products, but it could have the dealership experience as well. I know I loved the Jayco P/U that we had and loved the support I got from Jayco, but the Jayco dealership I used was absolutey HORRID. The 231kss we looked at appeared to have a ton of inside space. We have a 85lb golden retriever, a 2 year that still sleeps in a pac n play and another one on the way in the next year. Depending on how big Helen (oldest daughter) gets in the next year, we may still have 2 pack n plays set up. I would like to see Helen start sleeping on the couch when we get the 2nd child since she will be 3-3 1/2, but I do not know if she will be brave enough to sleep in the other bed. So we need plenty of inside space and the 2nd slide really seems to open the space up.

How much outside space does the kitchen slide take up under the awning? The pictures I have seen appear to be not that bad. I do like the idea of place to put a wagon, tricycle, or whatever to get out of the way or out of the rain like I did under the rear bunk of the p/u.

Better have a Hemi in that Jeep!:E

That Jeep had the 4.0 liter, one of the best motors ever produced. Hemi's are to expensive to fix, but they can produce a lot horse power!

What engine, and tow rating does that GC have?

    The roo 23ikss:
    GVW: 6,500
    Dry Weight: 5,130
    Payload Capacity: 1,370
    Hitch Weight: 490
These are the brochure weights of the glamping dual slideout hybrid. The 23ikss is closed tighter than a popup and requires one slideout opened to access the bathroom.

I do not have exact numbers sold, but have never seen one camping or being towed.

The 23ikss would have been a little much for the Grand Cherokee. The jeep was traded a while ago and the tow vehicle is now a GMC Sierra with a 5.3 liter.
  • We bought a 23IKSS last year at the end of June and used it for six camping trips after that. We love the 23IKSS. The only thing I had any trouble with was the LP regulator. When the water heater would fire up the regulator would hum fairly loud, could hear it in the camper. The dealer said it was ok to use but it would be replaced in warranty. Was told that Forest River had a problem with some of them like that but had no idea as to which models had these installed. Was replaced and now is quiet. We pull our with a 2008 Dodge Durango with a V8 engine. It handles it ok but I know it is back there. We had a popup camper for 15 years before this camper and there is a big difference in towing this one aside of the popup.
  • We bought one about this time last year. We love everything about it. The second slideout and the island make the interior seem huge. Lots of storage. Nothing else in that size range has the kitchen space that this model does. We are very happy with the features and the quality of the trailer. So far, no real issues - just a couple pieces of interior trim that were loose. We really like the attached canvas on the tent ends. The more time we've spent in it, the happier we are with it.

Its not light weight - we were about 6250 lbs loaded up for a trip. Tows very well behind our 1/2 ton pickup and its still small enough to fit into the state park camp sites where we used to take the popup. Nothing better than your own bathroom at 2am after a decade in the popup.:)
