I'm in Carbondale,Illinois, the spot of the longest totality. We are being inundated with folks, including the NASA observation teams with dozens of scientists, several planatariums from the midwest and abroad, and news people by the boatload. We're hosting a TV network in our Airbnb and putting a trailer in our side yard for their crew. And yes, there is real danger of roads closed, infrastructure collapsing, and law and order breaking down as we watch a surge of perhaps 100,000 people converge on our small town. We are almost alone in not raising our fees on our BNB. I don't like being gouged or gouging.
So, we like our situation inside our fenced 3/4 acre compound in the middle of town where a lot of you folks have camped.
And by the way, in some sort of spooky coincidence, Carbondale will be in the center of the next total eclipse as well. A planetary record?
