A few thoughts. The steps into my fifth wheel are 8 1/2 inches. The steps into my 8100 International are 1st step is 16 inches 2nd step is 19 inches so ask yourself would my wife or I have difficulty stepping up onto a kitchen chair {same height} If you are not well experienced check about getting insurance on a class 8 vehicle. That being ok check out Drivers licence required and can I pass the medical physical for that licence. Depending on what state you are in you can require an Air Brake Endorsement and be required to pass Air Brake written exam and Air Practical exam.
In Ontario Canada you would be required to demonstrate your ability to double clutch when shifting for the first couple of blocks and after that which ever method you are comfortable with.{no clutch or double clutching}
Shifting these are not exactly like rocking a stick in a pail of water. Also you better be physically strong just to push in the clutch never mind holding in depressed.
If these points entice you and you can meet the basic requirements then it can be exciting for you.
PS my 2014 Denally Dually pulling my 19000 lb fifth wheel can absolutely eat transports in the hills.
My 8100 International with an M11 Cummins Hauling 2 pulling tractors climbs hills at 35 miles an hour. My Dually doesn't slow down just drops a couple of gears.
People worry about their frames cracking and jel coat cracking on their fifth wheels and even though my International is air ride for that reason I wouldn't consider coupling the International to the Mobil Suite. Just my personal thoughts. Different strokes for different folks.
