Like you I am an engineer and am familiar with torque multiplication which is largely why I was surprised at the dealer's response. I suspect that it is likely a broad brush approach to modification - i.e. any modification means they have no control over the stuff people put on their vehicles, so they will deny any / all mods. Who knows.
At this point I am disinclined to pursue the matter any further with the dealer, as it will likely be of little use. They are the ones who have to stand behind the warranty and (Moss-Magnusson Act notwithstanding) have deeper pockets to fund any warranty denial. Besides I don't have the time to waste on that.
