Glad to meet a fellow engineer on this forum!
Have been called 'pig headed' and admit to it if provoked...
This would poke me to then go up the chain and write/call/email/etc corporate
about this. Start with asking for their GCWR chart for that vehicle hoping to
find it listing the various MTWR's for the diff ratios of 'that' GVWR truck
Also know how most corporate systems works (wrote many in my time). Mainly documentation
systems, of which specifications and their published specifications for warranty,
of which is the OEM's contract with their buyers
Example is my 1973 Kt Blazer and it's full time system, which mandated an automatic
Put new tires on 2 weeks after it arrived. Ordered a delete in tire/wheel from
the highest option package, Cheyenne. Put on 33/12.5x15's, which were Cepek's
first offerings at that time for that tire (got to know him and Dotty
personally and cool guy...his son was a jerk)
Since had the K5 up on stands, decided to test the full time 4x4...
Sure when 3 tires on pavement and the 4th (front, since the rear had LS) it
would spin...but...when shifted that Hurst linkage to 'lock', it would NOT
drive off the stand.
Took it to the nearest dealer and they said that is how it's supposed to work
Complained and got the area rep involved, who said the same thing.
Called Detroit and got a field service rep and asked till I got someone who
knew about 4x4
Told him and he admitted that this new 'full time' system was so new, few
in Detroit and in the field knew what the heck it was
Got a letter from him and took it to that dealer. He had already gotten an internal
note from corporate and was expecting me
Warranty on that Hurst linkage and it took took them 3 tries till they found
one that worked. Showed them that the cam inside the Hurst linkage box was NOT
moving one lever that was the 'lock' lever to the transfer case
Told them that the one they got to work was not acceptable because it was lucky
that 'that' one worked out of four...five if included the one that came with it
What am saying is that they should either live up to their own specifications
(GCWR or MTWR factored by diff ratio) or drop that chart
Here is one took off of a GM site and haven't been able to find similar for
the GMT900's yet
