I just re-read your original post and realized you're asking because you're considering upgrading your TT. I guess that makes it hard to "try it and see what happens." The 3.08s are not ideal, but the only time it will matter much is pulling away from a stop, because you can't drop a gear when you're already in 1st. But there may be more to it than just the rear-end.

One thing to look out for is the tow package on the vehicle. Ordinarily, trucks equipped for heavy towing don't come with 3.08s. It's possible (likely?) that there are other significant differences between the 7000# configuration and 9500# configuration, most notably cooling.
