anyone have the 5.7 HEMI in a SUV?

looked and almost bought a 2008 Chrysler Aspen tonight with the 5.7 HEMI in it. Nice SUV, much nice than the Durango, well kept, clean as a whistle, no rust, but it scares me that it had the 5.7 Hemi crammed in such a tight spot. Hardly could get my left elbow in the engine compartment, more or less a tool. Anyone have experience with this motor crammed into a Durango or Aspen?

Yes it has the smaller 3.55 towing, which rates at 7200 pounds I believe. I do pull a 27' weighing 7200# exactly loaded with a tounge weight of 1000#, but I tow it with my GMC 2500HD. Would only use this to tow if my truck was down.

Yes easy to service. As was mentioned plugs every 30k (16 of them) I can do them in less than an hour. Belt is easy, no plug wires. Fuel filter is in the tank and doesn't need to be changed (a lot of manuf are doing this).

That will be a load for 3.55's for sure.
  • I had a Hemi in a 2005 Grand Cherokee. Kept it for 3 or 4 years, used to tow my boat. No problems with it.

If I remember correctly, a tune up was around $400, which included spark plug change. That is recommended every 30,000 miles (which seems too often, but I guess the engineers know what it needs).

My brother has a 2005 or 2006 Durango with 280,000 miles on it. He plans to keep it to 350,000 plus.

  • I used to be a Chrysler tech back then. No issues with the engine let alone the SUV. The 5.7 is a strong motor with no problems. Once you remove all the plastic stuff on top of the motor it is very easy to maintain. The 5.7 will go along time as well as the trans and everything else attached to it!

The Aspen looks way better than the Durango. It's what the Durango should've been! If it's clean and well maintained I would jump on it. Does it have the tow pkg and the 3.90 gears? Probably has 3.55 as that is how most of them were ordered! The 3.55 will perform good, depending on what you are towing.
