You may want to do a little reading. Diesel engines in the big 3 all use high RPM's to control speed with the Exhaust brakes. I run my RAM as high as 3K, the ford and GM's can run even higher for the best braking.
Also using the cruise control on downhill grades is a VERY safe and effective way to control speed.
