PbS batteries just weigh a lot more than LFP. We have approximately 9.8 kW-hours of which about 8 kW-hours are usable at 160 pounds to include built-in battery management system (which some now call an energy management system). To obtain 8 kW-hours of usable energy from PbS would weight 700 to 900 pounds depending on type of battery (we used to have glass mat and they were great but weighed a lot - and they are somewhere in a wrecking yard in Mexico at this time along with our older trailer). We would be close to overweight on the rear axle of the pickup (dual-axle Chevie 2500) and the baggage compartment would likewise be over loaded. Son Cary noted that we he could have easily installed two more battery packs for a total of about 14 kW-hours but 8000 kW-hours is probably overkill as it is.
Mike and Pat - great to hear from you. Wejust got back from Guatemala/Honduras after 12 weeks of puttering about and had a great time. Mexican insurance and customs still have not worked everything out but perhaps we can get together again this next winter in Ciudad Valles and Yucatan. Will be through CO in April on way to Queen Charlotte Island in BC (perhaps). Hope to drop by Salida if you are there (you note that you are headed home next week "Llegare a nostros casa semana proxima" - did five weeks of Spanish lessons in Antigua and San Pedro del Laguna.
