Basically, the pan is drained and filled every 7500 so by 30,000 all the fluid has been more or less cycled through. This is done instead of a full fluid exchange.
This practice was started as a method to prolong the Dodge 4-speed transmissions, which have a short service life in our applications. Since the long-term durability of the Aisin is unknown, we still use the same practice until we see that actually are more durable. One major benefit of doing this is you can see metal or sludge in the fluid before you have any drivability symptoms, and can trade it off before getting stuck with the problem.
So maybe it's time to trade off the problem truck and replace it with one with the 6 speed manual?
