Anyone regret downsizing to a camper?

We had a 9-1/2 foot camper, and, still have a 7 foot camper. We also full timed for 2 years in a 38 foot Diesel Pusher.

We just acquired a 24-1/2 foot Class C.

So far, the Class C is the best rig for us. The campers were too small. The DP and toad was a battleship.

The Class C is just right. It is a DUALLY and exactly a foot longer than our Alpenlite/F350 combo and WAY more functional and roomy.

I LOVE campers but I have to admit the C is a better engineering and financial solution.

I upgraded from a large tent that was a pain in the butt to set up to a shortbed truck camper.

Fits the wife and 4 kids just fine !

My RV progression: Backpack>bicycle>station wagon>motorcycle>van>van>9.5 camper>33' Airstream>34' Motorhome>10.5 camper.

I found the trailer and the motorhome limited where I could go way too much. Might even have stuck with the 9.5 camper but the wife wanted a dry bath and I do have to admit that is a bit nicer.

It's a big step up from a tent to even a station wagon or van, you are no longer living in the dirt. Next big step up is a toilet/shower and a refrigerator. After that pretty small steps, just adding floor space. The only thing I might miss about the motorhome is the nearly unlimited storage. I packed everything I could think of and still had several large compartments running empty.

We've been looking at Class A motorhomes and some Class C's for 10-years and finally found the Class A diesel pusher that looked perfect for us. Used, low miles, great shape, diesel pusher with lots of previous owner add-ons. Perks galore. And affordable!

Gave it lots of thought. Came to the realization that we are truck camper folk. . .we see a dirt or rocky road with a mystery at the end and we go down it.

Reservation? Hah! Not us!
Maybe when I get old. . .80, 90 or something like that.

When I get small camper fever I just go hiking in some big country and by the time I get back that day, hungry, tired, I am very thankful to have such a little abode to take good care of me.

We have a 35' 5er and a 9.5 TC. We do some snowboarding, but otherwise love the TC for trips where we keep moving, using some secondary roads, and boon-docking. We go on an overnight trip in the TC almost every week. We've never done that with the 5th wheel.

We have a 33 foot 5th wheel and 11' 6" Lance TC. We have been using the TC exclusively because the kids are grown. Love the convenience of traveling and parking etc in the Truck Camper. In the future if we "snowbird" that's the reason we are keeping the 5th wheel. We are fortunate as we have a enclosed place to keep the toys. We have had three different TC's over the years. For us getting a big TC with plenty of fresh water and holding tanks has been a huge plus over some of the TC's we have had in the past. jmho

We had a Lance 1030 for 7 years and loved it. Since we wanted to become
Snowbirds/Winter Texans and stay in one spot for long periods, we traded up to a 30 ft. H.R. with a full wall slide. It worked perfectly for 7 years and then we found it was getting stressful driving it/toad in traffic etc. Getting older, we decided to downsize and now have a 24 ft. B+ with a Murphy bed and large bathroom plus all the other necessities. Depending on the trip, we don't always take a tow car.
This is working well for us at this stage of our lives. The Lance TC will always be our favorite, but climbing up into the overhead bed would not be feasible now. The B+ is very much like a compromise between the truck camper and the motorhome.

I think we have to be smart in our choice depending on type of travel and age and ability to drive the chosen RV.

I did a few trips this summer with my Ram 3500 and Lance 1172 pulling a motorcycle trailer. Between the truck camper and trailer, I was at about 33 ft. Didnt have any major issues parking but at times the camper felt a bit crampped.

I cant see how much of a difference driving a 35ft Super Class C would be without the misery of towing something.

We went from a 35' FW with kids to an 8' TC without kids. Besides missing the kids, we really enjoy the TC and plan to continue the TC lifestyle for at least a few years into retirement while we are still zipping around the country catching the highlights of a lot of places. However, once we want to start seeing places in-depth where we sit more than we move, we may go back to a TT of FW for the space.

They each have advantage and are right for a certain stage in your life.
