This goes around all the time! So far their is no hard evidence to prove that the numbers the "bean counters" make up ever come up in a law suit. And yes the bean counters have just as much say as the engineers. Look at the last 5 years. There are many upgrades to GVWR and tow rating with nothing more than a new door sticker!
