Anyone tow with a Suburban 2500

Looking into purchasing a Suburban 2500(2008-2010). I currently have a 06 Ford E150 (5.4L engine) conversion van. I tow a Jayco 27BH(dry weight 4900). It tows OK as long as I stay in the flat county. We do lots of local camping and it does fine. We take a trip to Florida once a year. It seems it struggle a bit! When towing I get 8 mpg. Love the van for trips but would I be any better in a 6.0L Suburban 2500?
Also considering a V10 E350 Ford? I would appreciate any input!!! Thank you!!!!

  • Although I don't have a 6.0L, I can say I wouldn't want anything other than a 2500 Burb for great towing performance and family comfort on long trips.
  • The sub would be a definite upgrade from your van. You'll have a larger more power full engine and a higher GVWR. The profile is probably a little lower so maybe better fuel mileage. That year range will have a 6 speed automatic where I believe your van has a 4 speed. So, basically, better in every way.
  • APT will hopefully come along soon and give you his opinions, but for the most part I think he really likes his 2500 Suburban with the 6L/6speed.

My van has the same engine and transmission and I absolutely love the set up. My trailer has an axle weight around 6400# and tongue weight of about 800# and my van tows it with ease, even with the 3.42 axle.

I know the V10 is a good engine, but the 6L/6 speed combo is going to tow what you have and even larger with no problem and give you better gas mileage while not towing. My wife gets about 15mpg daily driving and we get 17-18mpg on the highway.

    Good luck with your decision.
