Anyone try 12 V magnetic door lock for extra door security?

I've been looking for something to help door security. Magnetic locks can get crazy strong. Has anyone tired this out yet?

This one has 600 pounds of holding force:

  • That's always the risk, the damage costing more than what it is protecting. I doubt a broken door is an easy fix either :/ It would have to be a visible deterrent externally and i figure that means drilling holes in the outside creating more of a risk for water intrusion.

Just tossing out ideas to see if anything might help.

    Thanks
  • Down on the border in hunting camps some folks leave the camp house door unlocked. Maybe leave some bottled water on the table and some snacks. Better than finding the door busted a month later.
  • In that case, maybe it would be better to leave it unlocked and don't carry anything of value.
  • Well I'm looking at more international travel, so just looking for any visual deterrent that might help. Maybe a sign that states "nothing to steal inside" in Spanish? lol

Unfortunately, pots, pans, clothes, etc.. may have no value in the US... not the same rules in the 3rd world.
  • Maybe I'm wrong, but I don't think most RV thieves are going to have TCs on the top of their list. No, I don't have a magnetic lock or alarm.
  • Used them on warehouse security doors all of the time - worked great though they didn't have the remote control or key pad like this one.

On the way OUT. It's easier to carry the big stuff they steal out the door rather than the window they used to break in. :)
  • Well yeah but I havent figured that one out yet lol. Focus on the door... focus :p

No insurance outside of the US so that's not so much an option.

Maybe just the normal policy of let them basically in and dont have anything to steal. Sometimes it's cheaper that way vs. RV damage :S
  • Door hinges will pry right out with a bar

Security for any RV.........good insurance coverage.

Or self provided security when there :B
