Anyone use covers over there camper?

We're pulling the trigger and buying a new camper and want to keep it looking great. Do any of y'all use a camper cover and if so how do you like it and how long do they last? Thanks

  • I think it's worth using a good cover. The vinyl decals and trim hate sun. From what I understand, the best are made in CA. The cover I had made it only a few years.
  • I have used one on my camper. I started with the CW versions, which can be described as disposable. They last a year, two if you push it to taters, and cost about $200 - 250. I moved on to a Calmark cover, which looks like it will last maybe a decade or more and cost about $700. One problem with the Calmark: it is heavy and that discourages one from putting it on for short periods. In fact I don't know that I could do it alone and from the camper roof access ladder like a could with the cheap version. It is pretty easy with the 40' ariel work platform that I usually park next to the camper though :).

None of them actually keep all the water off, but here in California sun is the enemy of longevity, and the camper looks much better kept under a cover than not after a few years.
  • I use one but seasonal. I have pine trees on the property and needles seem to fly through the air clogging gutters and window weep holes. During the winter the cover will be on for 3-4 months. I bought a CW special and they don't have any with a side door entry so when it's covered, I can't get in easily. It's my first year with it so no life experiences yet.

My friend used one in Ariz bought from camping world for about $500. Fortunately she bought the 2 yr. warranty for any possible tears etc. for about $100. After about 1 year she went back to get her money back. Their trailer torn a whole in the cover. Take a close look at any sharp areas on your rig. It was also a pain in the butt to install and took 4 people:( The RV was a 34' 5th. wheel.
