I'd (personally) wouldn't be averse to treating the screen with Permanone (a very long-lasting broad-spectrum repellent).
I do treat my screens and around my doors wth Peramonee (I think that is the marigold extract isn't it?
I also spray the carpet in front of the door.
I have BassPro shirts with it in the fiber/matrial.
