And if you intend to tow in the mountains, towing max capacity will not likely be fun. Our TT is very light (2740# loaded), originally towed with a Nissan Frontier that was rated at 6800# so we were less than half the rating on that TT.. towing in the mountains stank, often we couldn't get back up to speed after slowing for tight turns.. and very often we had to flog that poor truck.
That being said I believe the changed the tow rating calculation methods recently, my fronty was an '07 so likely was 'rated' using the earlier much more optimistic methods.
