The axle and GVWR are limited by the weakest link in the suspension. The 2500 vs 3500 SRW difference is often (except new Rams) one more leaf in the spring pack, a different spacer AND the 2500 has standard 17" wheel/tires while the 3500 SRW has 18" wheel/tires standard. The GVWR is based on standard equipment. The wheels and tires that come standard are often the difference. The 2500s with optional 18" wheels/tires often just lack the one leaf spring. This is my understanding of the marketing to keep the classes separate.
