It's interesting that a 12 Ram 2500 4x4 CC LB CTD can only tow 9500lbs with 3.42 gears. Put 4.10 in and it goes to 14,500. GCVWR goes from 17,000 to 22,000. Same brakes, frame, etc.
Now jump to a 3500 4.10 and the tow rating goes to 16,450 and GCVWR goes to 24,000. Only difference is the rear spring pack between the 2500-3500. It's strictly a cooling issue or drive train issue. Braking is not a concern. Nor is Handling. 3/4 ton trucks are IMO needed for registration purposes only. To many crossover components between the two. Why even sell 3/4 ton trucks if not for registration. Add $700 to the price and you get a 1 ton. I highly doubt sales would drop one bit if the discontinued 3/4 ton truck production.
