Name one reason for the existence of 3/4 ton trucks besides registration. $700-800.00 in savings is not a good enough reason for their existence. Anyone spending $45-65,000 is not going to worry about $7-800.00.
The braking performance requirements for vehicles with GVWR greater than 10,000# are significantly different from the requirements for vehicles less than 10,000#.
It's hard to determine, just from reading the standard, whether it's more difficult to satisfy the requirements for GVWR greater than 10,000#.
However, this could be one more reason for assigning a GVWR below 10,000#, even though the vehicle might be able to perform satisfactorily at higher weight.

The Ram 3500 SRW and Ram 2500 have the exact same brakes just like the other manufacturers.
