Buy a diesel because you like how they drive/tow over a similar gas engine and you can afford it. They drive differently than the gas engine options of the same vehicle, which applies to cars and trucks. They are difficult to justify if you only consider up front costs and any potential fuel savings. There are far too many factors to consider when it comes to total ownership costs, many of which cannot be easily calculated. So, buy one if you like it and can afford it.
