High cost of diesel

Diesel at $3.23 today makes me feel better, at least. Still .60 more than low grade gas.

I have never (in 12 years) felt the need for an aux tank. If I am running really low and the advertised price is more than seems reasonable, I stop and put $20 worth in, Sure it is only 5 or 6 gallons, but at 10mpg with the trailer on it gets me to someplace with more reasonable prices. The only exception was to and from Alaska when I filled as soon as it went below half, no matter what the price. Petro Canada loves me, this I know.

So around here diesel is about $3.50 and gas is about 2.80, $0.70 difference.
I pull an 11,000# 5er with less than 300hp, I very seldom get slowed down by a hill, with 3.55's. then with the Pacbrake I very seldom need to touch the brakes on a downhill.

Pulling the hills to the Coast and keeping at between 55 and 60 get 12 mpg, I will not tow with gas again.
My old 460 got maybe 7 mpg, so I am saving money on fuel. That is not the point, the point is the comfort of towing with less than 300 hp, and knowing I will not be held up by a hill.

Lol, I worked in the industry a long time and never heard diesel called garbage, depending on the cut point we were trying to achieve we maximized its production.

Ever notice the increase in mpg between a gas and a diesel is directly proportional to the increase in the price difference between gas and diesel. We are all the way up to a 78% increase in mpg now. All I can say is WOW!

I'm staying with diesel. I can't tow my rig with gas and get the same mileage.
For the difference I pay I get better bang for the buck with diesel.
Gas - 8mph if lucky
Diesel - 14.3mph
Simple math.
The pricing is all a scam anyways. Diesel is a by-product of gas production, therefore it's gas garbage. Just a cash grab IMHO.

I understand you may fill up when its bargain priced. But how do you predict the future. Buy today,price could drop tomorrow. Where does it end?

A lot of people "think" they need an aux. tank. Not worth the loss of storage space for me or the extra weight. My truck already weighs 14K loaded.

If I am planning on traveling to an area I am new to I will carry 5 gal in the tool box to be safe.

I think people should travel a while without an extra tank to see if they really need it or want it then decide.

I for one don't want to spend my retired life chasing nickels!

I have had my diesel daily driver for 46k miles in 2.5 years. I have tracked almost all tanks @ fuelly. With rare exception, diesel is $4/gal around Detroit. Gas varies $3-$4.25. I wouldn't trade my diesel car for anything else in its class.

I agree and for me it is the extra weight of 600-700lbs. I carry enough already and have always found lower price fuel stops with just my 36 gallon capacity.

$1.14 difference in west Michigan right now.
