I have a 2012 3500 Chevy Duramax (SRW, Crewcab, 4x4) with 21k miles on it. It is my daily driver. I've changed the oil a few times and put DEF in. DEF is about $15. The added cost of oil changes and DEF is worth it to me, as I get better mileage while towing and it's just great for towing. I have the power to go into the hills, and the safety features (including compression brake) to come down the hills while towing 11k. I have had zero issues with my truck and think it is a wonder of modern engineering.
