Are slides safe to use in the closed position?

We are looking for a double bunk travel trailer with a dinette and sofa in the slide. We would like to be able to use it closed while stopped. We have two boys that will be jumping on everything a...

Either open or stowed, I would not allow my children to jump on the couch.

With our present rv and all of our previous rv's (that had slide outs), I have always used them in either position without any problems being created.
