Are slides safe to use in the closed position?

We are looking for a double bunk travel trailer with a dinette and sofa in the slide. We would like to be able to use it closed while stopped. We have two boys that will be jumping on everything a...

I don't know the definitive answer, but I was also told not to use the slide with it in. So I don't; it has never been any problem with not using it. Is it overhyped? I don't know, but I sure don't want to find out the hard way. Maybe it depends. In any event, I'm not gambling.
